December 4, 2011: Hugo's First Day Skiing

We took Hugo up to Hyak for his first day skiing.  He had on his typical onesie and pants, fleece overalls and hooded coat, and a full ski suit.  With hat and neck gator.  You think he is warm enough?  Hope so.  He did great on the climb up, a few little protest cries, that stopped as long as we sang to him.  Try skinning up the hill with a 20+ lb baby, all his gear, and singing.  We kept alternating versus so we could catch our breath.

We skinned up the XC trail and skied down the same way, being very cautious.  But Hugo did great!  He was even laughing at the top when we took him out and let him kick around.

In the parking lot, the guy parked next to us had a two year old he had just skied down with in a backpack.  He said this year is a lot of fun, because the kid keeps shouting "Faster! Faster!" and "JUMP!"  As we walked toward the snow we ran into Adam (from ProSki) and his wife with their 4 month old Zora.  It was her first day too, and she was going to ski in a snuggly on the front.  I guess Hyak is the place for kids in the "backcountry."
